Reds Lose Despite McGriff's Valiant Effort
|
Cincinnati designated hitter Fred McGriff had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. McGriff was 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3, even as St. Louis beat the Reds, 6-4. McGriff was named the player of the game despite the loss. The winner was Mike J Grace, who threw 103 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits. St. Louis is 4th in the Federal League Central Division with a record of 60-58.
Dan Wilson had a productive at-bat for the Cardinals with one out in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded, the catcher hit a sacrifice fly. The at-bat was important in the St. Louis win.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Wilson said after the game.
