Sosa Slugs Mets to 8-5 Win
|
With right fielder Sammy Sosa leading the charge, the New York Mets defeated the Seattle Pilots, 8-5, at Shea Stadium. Sosa, who is tied for 8th in the UL in extra base hits with 50, hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. The winner was Scott Garrelts, who threw 97 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 6 hits. Dan Plesac converted his 15th save in 17 tries.
Bret Boone aided the New York cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the second baseman was 1-4.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Sosa. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Mets bumped their record to 74-44 with this latest triumph.
