Red Sox Score Late to Upend Cardinals, 9-5
|
The Boston Red Sox dealt the St. Louis Cardinals a 9-5 loss at Busch Stadium. Barry Bonds was the star on offense. He went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Boston is now 44-75.
Akira Eto had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the top of the ninth inning. With Boston trailing 5-4 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Mariano Rivera and stroked the home run to left-center. It was his 11th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 6-5.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Bonds told reporters after the game.
