New York starter Jose Rosado pitched effectively against the San Diego Padres at Shea Stadium. The left-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Dan Plesac converted his 23rd save in 30 tries. The Mets bumped their record to 66-53 with this latest triumph.

With New York trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Tony Tarasco hit a 2-run double off San Diego pitcher Jamie Moyer. It put the Mets ahead 4-3.

"Winning is contagious," said Rosado. "We're looking forward to the next game."
