Late Rally by Dodgers Secures Win
Los Angeles withstood an impressive performance by Detroit catcher Brent Mayne to defeat the Tigers, 7-5, at Tiger Stadium. Mayne was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Scott Radinsky converted his 2nd save in 5 tries. The Dodgers bumped their record to 63-58 with this latest triumph.

Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Jason Varitek to capture the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dodgers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but he made it count.

"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Varitek told the Los Angeles Daily News. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
