Great Effort by Thompson Wasted in 7-5 Yankees Loss
|
New York center fielder Ryan Thompson was sensational. He slugged 2 home runs, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Charlotte beat the Yankees, 7-5. Thompson was named the player of the game despite the loss. The third-place Knights have won 6 consecutive games.
Tony Batista had a big 3-run home run for the Knights in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Charlotte trailing 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Mark Langston and stroked the home run to left-center. It was his 19th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Knights ahead, 5-3.
"I like our mindset right now," said Charlotte manager Tyler Vuxta.
