Merced Helps Royals Run Win Streak to 3
The Kansas City Royals beat the Boston Red Sox, 14-5, at Royals Stadium. Kansas City left fielder Orlando Merced earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Boston now has a 6-game losing streak.

Merced contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Kansas City in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Merced took a curveball from Chan Ho Park and stroked the double to right. His 26th double of the season allowed the Royals to leap in front, 2-1.

"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Merced.
