Red Sox Trip Cardinals in Extras
|
Boston starter John Ericks pitched effectively against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Boston reliever Trever Miller picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Rusty Meacham was saddled with the loss. Mike Williams, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Boston used the bat of Todd Hollandsworth to get the win. The right fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hollandsworth.
The Cardinals, now 70-50, have lost 4 in a row.
