Yankees Squelch Cubs Offense in Shutout Win
|
Chicago pitcher Teddy Higuera gave the Yankees all they could handle, but in the end, New York left Wrigley Field with a 3-0 win. Higuera allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits over 9 innings. Brian Bohanon got the win, improving to 10-8. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and no runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. German Jimenez converted his 11th save in 20 tries.
New York used the bat of Andy Stankiewicz to get the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said New York manager Patrick McQuail.
New York occupies 5th place in the Federal League East Division at 46-74.
