Rockies Prevail, 5-3, Over Washington
|
Colorado beat Washington on the strength of starter Orel Hershiser's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Hershiser, the winner, moves to 12-5. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. Robb Nen notched his 26th save in 33 chances.
The Rockies used some clutch hitting to beat the Senators, a good example being the at-bat of Daryl Boston in the top of the first. With two down, Boston gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he hit a 2-run double.
"Orel is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Colorado manager JD Morris.
The third-place Rockies lifted their record to 67-52.
