Fletcher Lifts Pilots to 8-6 Triumph
|
The Seattle Pilots beat the New York Mets, 8-6, at Shea Stadium. Seattle second baseman Scott Fletcher earned player of the game honors. He collected 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 3 runs. Todd Van Poppel got the win, improving to 12-10. He worked 7 innings, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Darren Holmes earned the save, his 19th, for the Pilots.
It could have been a different outcome for Seattle, had it not been for Terry Pendleton, the top prospect . Pendleton contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Seattle up, 2-0.
"We came out aggressive," said Pilots manager Robert O'Neill. "We came out swinging the bats."
Seattle occupies second place in the United League West Division at 62-57.
