Everett Slugs Senators to 5-2 Win
|
Carl Everett left his imprint on the 5-2 Washington win against the San Francisco Giants. Everett, who finished 4th in the FL in extra base hits with 82 last year, was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The winner was Chad Ogea, who threw 97 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. San Francisco has now lost 6 in a row.
Everett contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Washington in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-0, Everett took a fastball from Scott Sanders and stroked the home run to right. His 29th home run of the season allowed the Senators to leap in front, 3-2.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Washington manager Alexander Cumana.
