Florida beat New York on the strength of starter Aaron Sele's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. The Marlins bumped their record to 72-49 with this latest triumph.

Florida took the lead with one out in the top of the sixth when Edgardo Alfonzo stroked a grand slam home run. That made the score 4-0 in favor of Florida. For the day, Alfonzo was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.

"Baseball is about momentum," said Alfonzo, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
