Tigers Fall Short at New York
|
New York rode a good effort from starter Randy Johnson to beat the Detroit Tigers at Shea Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Reliever Wayne Edwards picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. Danny Graves took the loss. The 4th-place Mets now have a 6-game winning streak.
The Mets were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Greg Colbrunn turned a first pitch fastball from Danny Graves into a 2-run double. The walk-off double sent a roar through the crowd and gave New York a thrilling 2-1 win.
"We did just enough to win," Johnson said.
