Padres Win at Washington, 5-2
|
The Washington Senators and San Diego Padres were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at RFK Stadium.
The San Diego Padres picked up a win at RFK Stadium, knocking off the Washington Senators, 5-2. Starting pitcher Rick Krivda was an essential part of his team's success. Krivda got the win, improving to 4-2. He allowed 4 hits and walked 5 over 7.1 innings. Krivda allowed 1 earned run. Robb Nen got the save, his 20th in 21 chances.
San Diego used the timely hitting of Mike Lieberthal to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Padres on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We did enough to win," said Lieberthal.
Washington has now lost 4 straight.
