Athletics Need Extra Frames to Get Past Padres
The Oakland Athletics topped the San Diego Padres, 6-3, in United League action at Jack Murphy Stadium. The player of the game was Oakland pitcher and Cambridge, Massachusetts native Jason Bere. Even with the win, the Athletics have a dismal 40-80 record.

Devon White dealt the Padres a blow in the top of the tenth. Batting with the bases loaded and Oakland leading 4-3, White, who finished 5th in the FL in runs with 111 in 1986, hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single.

Bere called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
