Belle Slugs Senators to 8-1 Win
|
With right fielder Albert Belle leading the charge, the Washington Senators defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 8-1, at Memorial Stadium. Belle, who is tied for 7th in the UL in RBI with 84, was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 4 times and drove in 2. Washington starter John Burkett was credited with the win after throwing 129 pitches over 9 innings. His record now stands at 9-5. This loss makes it 10 in a row for Baltimore.
The Senators got a big at-bat from left fielder Carl Everett. For the game, Everett went 1 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 31st home run of the season gave Washington a 3-1 lead.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Belle said after the game.
