Royals Win at Chicago, 7-4
|
The Chicago Cubs got a sterling performance from pitcher Randy Tomlin, but the Royals still prevailed, 7-4. Tomlin was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Mike Stanton earned the save for Kansas City, his 3rd of the year. The defending champion Royals have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 6-7 with the win.
Kansas City took a 6-3 lead on Roberto Alomar's 11th hit of the season. The 2-run single, which Alomar hit in the top of the seventh, left Chicago pitcher Frank DiPino shaking his head.
"It was a solid team effort," said Alomar after the game.
