Extra-Inning Win by Pirates over Reds
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Cincinnati Reds, 5-4, in 13 innings. Pittsburgh first baseman Scott Stahoviak earned player of the game honors with his performance. He was 2-2 with a home run. Paul Shuey, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. The Pirates sit in first place in the Federal League East Division with a record of 72-50.
Stahoviak had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 13th. On a 1-1 slider from Arthur Rhodes, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Pirates a 5-4 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Stahoviak.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Stahoviak said.
