Cubs Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Cardinals
|
Luis Gonzalez left his imprint on the 7-5 Chicago win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Gonzalez, who finished 4th in the FL in doubles with 40 last year, was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win boosts the Cubs to 68-56. The loss puts the Cardinals at 72-51.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Trot Nixon to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cubs on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Gonzalez told the Chicago Daily News.
