Expos Need Extra Frames to Get Past Mets
The inspired effort of New York left fielder Cliff Floyd was not enough to prevent a 11-7 loss to the Montreal Expos. Floyd went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Mike Jeffcoat got credit for the win, improving to 5-4. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The second-place Expos raised their record to 75-48.

One significant at-bat for Montreal came with a runner on 1st in the top of the tenth. Expos catcher Mike Sweeney hit a run-scoring double, which helped Montreal go on to win.

"We didn't go down without a fight," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
