Mitchell Slugs Spiders to 11-4 Win
Cleveland third baseman Kevin Mitchell was instrumental in his team's 11-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. Mitchell, who led the FL in wins above replacement with 7.5 in 1984, went 2-3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Spiders. Ron Robinson got the win, improving to 15-9. He worked 8 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 0. The Spiders, at 58-66, sit in third place in the Federal League East Division.

Billy Ripken put Cleveland in front, 3-0, when he took Roger Salkeld downtown. His 2-run home run came with no one out in the bottom of the second. It was his 4th home run of the season.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Ripken said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
