Twins Lose to Royals, 8-4
|
The Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins, 8-4, at Metrodome. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Jeff Conine, who captured player of the game honors. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Rheal Cormier went 8.1 innings for Kansas City to pick up the win. The left-hander was charged with 4 earned runs. He scattered 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record improves to 8-4. Kansas City is now 83-40, 9 games up in the Federal League Central Division.
Hensley Meulens aided the Kansas City cause with a 2-run single in the top of the fifth. For the game, the shortstop went 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker.
