Tigers Stymie New York, Take 4-1 Win
|
Detroit right-hander Kevin Gross made an effective start against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium, leading his team to a 4-1 win. Rigo Beltran notched his 14th save in 25 chances. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 39-85 record.
Chipping in for Detroit was first baseman Tino Martinez. He stroked a 2-run home run in the top of the first. For the game, Martinez was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said New York manager Michael Kritikos.
