Ramirez Helps Padres Run Win Streak to 3
|
The San Diego Padres defeated the Oakland Athletics, 9-6, in United League action at Jack Murphy Stadium, with San Diego designated hitter Manny Ramirez named player of the game. The win was credited to Jamie Moyer in relief. His record improves to 7-7. Doug Brocail took the loss. Norm Charlton got the save, his 1st in 1 chances.
One important at-bat came with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning. Facing Oakland hurler Doug Brocail, Jeff Frye, who finished 2nd in the UL in doubles with 45 in 1994, drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Padres went on to win.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Frye told the San Diego Gazette.
San Diego now has a 3-game win streak.
