Spiders Win at Orlando, 7-5
|
The Cleveland Spiders stopped the Orlando Devil Rays, 7-5, behind an impressive performance from Bernard Gilkey. The two-time All-Star made life miserable for Orlando pitching. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Sterling Hitchcock got the save, his 4th in 8 chances. The Spiders sit in 4th place in the Federal League East Division with a record of 55-69.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Marquis Grissom to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Spiders on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Grissom told the Cleveland Herald.
