Higuera Super -- No-Hits Minnesota
|
In a dominant outing, Teddy Higuera of the Chicago Cubs totally silenced the bats of the Minnesota Twins, finishing with a no-hitter.
In the Cubs' 4-0 victory, Higuera faced only 27 batters, surrendered no hits, had 12 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"Honestly, I didn't even know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning," Chicago manager Anthony Perez said. "I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had gotten, and I happened to notice that they hadn't gotten any."
Commenting on the defeat, losing manager Darren Fischbach told reporters in the clubhouse that he had a "simple" analysis of the game.
"The Cubs had all the hits and all the runs, so they won," he snapped. "But yeah, Higuera pitched a heck of a ballgame."
In 26 starts this year Higuera has posted 12 wins while suffering 11 losses. He has pitched 186.1 innings, allowed 164 hits, struck out 184 and has a 4.01 ERA.
