Athletics Continue Skid Thanks to DeShields, Diamondbacks
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Oakland Athletics, 7-5, at Bank One Ballpark. Arizona second baseman Delino DeShields was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Mike Harkey picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 7-9. The Athletics, now 40-84, have lost 4 straight.
DeShields came through with some timely hitting for Arizona. With the score 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth and two down, DeShields hit a 0-1 slider for a 3-run home run. His 11th home run of the season made it 7-4, Arizona.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," DeShields told the Arizona Observer.
