Sorrento Goes Wild, But Reds Win
|
New York designated hitter Paul Sorrento had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Sorrento went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice, even as Cincinnati beat the Yankees, 6-4. Sorrento was named the player of the game despite the loss. Scott Bankhead got credit for the win, improving to 8-10. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits in 8 innings. Todd Worrell, credited with the save, is now 32 for 38 in save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Cincinnati, had it not been for Eric Davis, the three-time Gold Glove winner . Davis contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-0.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Davis told the Cincinnati Daily. "It's as simple as that."
The 5th-place Yankees have dropped 4 straight games.
