Spirited fans at Fenway Park greeted the Boston Red Sox for their clash with the Florida Marlins.

Florida got a strong outing from Shane Reynolds as the Marlins defeated the Boston Red Sox, 7-2, at Fenway Park. Reynolds went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 4-5.

Florida used the timely hitting of Matt Williams to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Marlins on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"We had a good game plan," Reynolds said, "and we were able to execute it."

The first-place Marlins, at 77-48, now lead their division by 8½ games.
