The Pittsburgh Pirates easily defeated the Orlando Sun Rays, 12-2, at Orlando Citrus Bowl, with first baseman Andy Van Slyke a main contributor to the win. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh now sits in 4th place in the Federal League East Division at 62-64.

Jose Valentin had a critical at-bat with two out in the top of the second for Pittsburgh. He came through with a 2-run double to put Pittsburgh in front, 3-0.

"We came out aggressive," said Pirates manager Stephen Ginter. "We came out swinging the bats."
