Spiders Win at Orlando, 5-3
|
The Orlando Devil Rays and Cleveland Spiders cranked it up at Orlando Citrus Bowl.
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Orlando Devil Rays, 5-3, in Federal League action at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The player of the game was Cleveland pitcher and Houston, Texas native Roger Pavlik. In 8 innings, Pavlik surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 11 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Steve Cooke, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
The Spiders got a big at-bat from shortstop Billy Ripken. For the game, Ripken was 1 for 3 with a walk. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 104th hit of the season gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Ripken said.
Cleveland now has a 3-game win streak.
