Mets Clip Tigers in Tight Contest
The New York Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers, 5-3, in United League action at Tiger Stadium, with New York pitcher Tom Glavine named player of the game. Dan Plesac was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 19 save opportunities. The Mets have an impressive 80-47 record.

New York used the bat of Olmedo Saenz to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.

"I liked his command," said New York manager Michael Kritikos. "Tom was throwing strikes."
