The Colorado Rockies bested the San Diego Padres, 3-2, at Jack Murphy Stadium. Steve Gibralter was named player of the game. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Clint Zavaras, the winner, improved to 6-4. He held the Padres to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 4. The Rockies, at 58-68, sit in 4th place in the United League West Division.
With Colorado leading 1-0 in the top of the second, Gibralter hit a fastball from Ismael Valdez for a 2-run home run. It was his 19th home run of the season and put the Rockies ahead, 3-0.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Gibralter told the Colorado News. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
