Sun Rays Sneak Past Twins, 5-4
|
The Orlando Sun Rays did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Nobody did more than pitcher Jimmy Key, who captured player of the game honors. Orlando occupies third place in the Federal League East Division at 60-68.
The Sun Rays were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when shortstop Jose Valentin turned a 1-1 changeup from Trevor Hoffman into a 2-run double. The walk-off double electrified the Orlando Citrus Bowl denizens and sent the Sun Rays home with a thrilling 5-4 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach. "But we decided not to take it."
