Elway Excels, But White Sox Win
|
Orlando right fielder John Elway had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Elway hit 2 home runs, even as Chicago beat the Devil Rays, 7-4. Elway was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jaime Navarro earned the win for Chicago. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. Chicago is 58-71 and Orlando, with the loss, 70-60.
There were several reasons the White Sox beat the Devil Rays, but one factor was Mike Kingery. In the bottom of the fourth, the Chicago left fielder came to bat and hit a 2-run double. It staked his team to a 6-4 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Kingery. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
