Thomas hits 5th home run as Twins Squeeze Past Chicago
|
The Minnesota Twins eked out a 8-7 win versus the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Nobody did more than first baseman Frank Thomas, who captured player of the game honors. Minnesota reliever Bob Ayrault picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Doug Jones took the loss. Rob Dibble got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
With Minnesota trailing 7-4 in the top of the ninth, Thomas hit a fastball from Doug Jones for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Twins ahead, 8-7.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Thomas.
With the win, Minnesota pushes its record to 7-7.
