Reds Stay Hot, Beat Cardinals
|
Cincinnati starter Mike Mussina pitched effectively against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Mussina, now 15-5, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 1, walking 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Doug Henry was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 7 of 9 save opportunities.
Scott Rolen dealt the Cardinals a blow in the top of the sixth. Batting with a runner on 1st and Cincinnati trailing 3-2, Rolen, who is tied for 8th in the FL in extra base hits with 61, hit a 0-1 slider for a 2-run home run.
"We'll savor this win," Rolen told the Cincinnati News, "then get ready for the next game."
Cincinnati has now reeled off 6 straight wins.
