Multi-HR Game for Santiago in 6-1 Win
|
Benito Santiago left his imprint on the 6-1 Oakland win against the Washington Senators. Santiago, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Kurt Kepshire got the win, improving to 7-13. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The Athletics' win now puts them at 61-69.
Oakland took a 4-1 lead on Santiago's 10th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Jose DeLeon in the top of the sixth, propelled Oakland to the win.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Santiago told the Oakland Chronicle. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
