Montreal catcher Mike Sweeney had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Sweeney went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Arizona beat the Expos, 6-4. Sweeney was named the player of the game despite the loss. Arizona starter Omar Daal was credited with the win after throwing 103 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 4-5. With the win over Montreal, the Diamondbacks improved to 66-64.

In the top of the fourth, the Diamondbacks took a 2-0 lead when Sandy Alomar Jr. hit a run-scoring double.

Alomar Jr. said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
