The Baltimore Orioles topped the Seattle Pilots, 7-4, in United League action at Memorial Stadium. The player of the game was Baltimore third baseman Kelly Gruber. Roger McDowell got the save, his 18th in 23 chances. Baltimore now owns a record of 58-71.

Gruber came through with some timely hitting for Baltimore. With the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth and one down, Gruber hit a 1-0 slider for a 2-run home run. His 25th home run of the season made it 3-1, Baltimore.

"I felt good up there," said Gruber. "I saw the ball well."
