Athletics Fall to Pettitte and Senators, 2-1
|
Washington Senators starter Andy Pettitte turned in a sterling performance against the Oakland Athletics, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Troy Percival got the save, his 21st in 28 chances. The first-place Senators, at 82-47, now lead their division by 4 games.
Pettitte was effective for Washington, seldom allowing the Athletics to square up a pitch. The left-hander tossed 119 pitches over 7 innings. He limited Oakland to just 1 run on 1 hit.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Pettitte.
