Royals Win at New York, 6-1
|
Kansas City Royals starter Mark Guthrie pitched effectively against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The left-hander spearheaded his team's 6-1 win. In 9 innings, Guthrie surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The Royals have an impressive 87-43 record.
The Royals got a lift from second baseman Quilvio Veras, who in the top of the fourth stroked a 1-2 curveball into left-center for a 2-run single. It was his 32nd hit of the season and put the Royals ahead, 3-1.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Veras told the Kansas City Chronicle. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
