Padres Stymie Washington, Take 8-1 Win
|
The San Diego Padres picked up a win at RFK Stadium, knocking off the Washington Senators, 8-1. Starting pitcher Rod Nichols played a key role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Nichols surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. San Diego, at 49-83, sits in last place in the United League West Division.
It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Alex S Gonzalez, the 21-year old shortstop . Gonzalez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the sixth inning to put San Diego up, 4-1.
"Everything felt in sync," said Nichols.
