The San Diego Padres buried the Detroit Tigers, 13-2, under a barrage of hits. Vinny Castilla led the onslaught, going 3-for-4 for San Diego. San Diego now sits at 64-67, while Detroit falls to 40-91.

There was more than one reason the Padres beat the Tigers, but Castilla's big at-bat in the top of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said San Diego manager Matt Dodds.
