Pirates Jolt Twins with Late Rally
|
Pittsburgh beat Minnesota on the strength of starter Kevin Appier's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. The winner was Carl Willis in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Pedro Astacio took the loss. Pittsburgh's record now stands at 77-54, placing them second in the Federal League East Division.
Lance Blankenship's at-bat in the bottom of the ninth was significant, coming with a runner on 1st and the game tied, 2-2. The Pittsburgh second baseman hit a run-scoring double off Pedro Astacio to put the Pirates up.
"This place was rocking at the end," Appier said.
