Cardinals Solve Devil Rays, 5-2
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Francisco Cordova turned in an exceptional performance against the Orlando Devil Rays at Busch Stadium, resulting in a St. Louis win, 5-2. Randy Myers picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-0. Wes Gardner was tagged with the loss. The Cardinals raised their record to 75-57.
St. Louis took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, second baseman Dickie Thon hit a 3-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
Thon said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
