Victory Pushes Padres Record to 66-66
|
San Diego pitcher Chuck Finley did his part in helping his team beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Finley got the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 3 over 5 innings. Finley allowed 1 earned run. Ramon Pena earned his 19th save in 21 chances.
Ruben Sierra dealt the Orioles a blow in the bottom of the first. Batting with a runner on 1st and San Diego trailing 1-0, Sierra, who finished 5th in the FL in triples with 9 in 1991, hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run home run.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Finley told the San Diego Observer. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
San Diego now sits in third place in the United League West Division at 66-66.
