The Minnesota Twins easily defeated the New York Yankees, 12-4, at Yankee Stadium, with first baseman Frank Thomas a main contributor to the win. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for Minnesota. The Twins' win now puts them at 58-74.

The Yankees had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Twins going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the four-time All-Star Larry Walker came to the plate. Walker hit a run-scoring double on a 2-0 fastball from New York hurler Brian Bohanon. It was Walker's 30th double of the year.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Thomas said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
