Oakland got a terrific game from first baseman John Olerud. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Colorado, 7-6. Olerud was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He slugged 2 home runs. Colorado reliever Mike Timlin picked up the win, upping his record to 5-9. Doug Brocail absorbed the loss. Colorado's record now stands at 55-79, placing them 5th in the United League West Division.

Juan Gonzalez put Colorado in front, 6-2, when he took Doug Brocail downtown. His 2-run home run came with no one out in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 47th home run of the season.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Gonzalez told the Colorado Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
