St. Louis starter Miguel Batista pitched effectively against the Kansas City Royals at Royals Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 8-4 win. St. Louis is now 69-65, Kansas City 80-55.

It could have been a different outcome for St. Louis, had it not been for Gerald Young, the 32-year old left fielder . Young contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put St. Louis up, 6-3.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said St. Louis skipper Adam Rabel.
