Swamp Foxes Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Fans of the Savannah Swamp Foxes who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Savannah win over the visiting Asheville Moonshiners, 4-3. Alan Benes started for the home team against Melido Perez. Melido Perez earned the coveted player of the game honors. The winner was Toby Borland in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Mike Draper took the loss.
The Swamp Foxes got an important contribution from center fielder Ryan Thompson, who in the bottom of the tenth punched a 2-0 forkball into right-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Swamp Foxes ahead, 4-3.
"That's how to finish a ballgame," said Thompson.
