Cardinals Get Past Royals 8-6 to Open DS
The St. Louis Cardinals started the Division Series in style today, winning on the road against the Kansas City Royals at Royals Stadium by a score of 8-6 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cardinals third baseman Matt Williams was named player of the game after he went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs.

Momentum swung to the Cardinals in the top of the fifth, when Williams, who finished 5th in the FL in RBI with 107 last year, hit a run-scoring double. It propelled the Cardinals into the lead, 2-0.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Williams.

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Royals Stadium. Slated to start are Dave Fleming for the St. Louis Cardinals and Denny Neagle for the the Kansas City Royals.
